Janie's Memory

I was at work when I passed our lobby area which had several TVs and saw co-workers with their jaws dropped staring at the TV. I walked and and saw what was unfolding and was in total shock. I stood there watching as the 1st tower fell and then afterwards the 2nd tower. My eyes were filled with tears and I could not focus on work the entire day. God Bless America...truly the land of the free. We are still here and no one will ever bring us down!

Linda's Memory

We lived in Ohio at the time, and on Sept. 11 I was in Cleveland seeing customers. One had a TV on in the office and it was tuned to the news. As it showed the first tower burning, another plane hit the second tower while we watched in horror. Was this an attack on the whole USA? There was no way to grasp and understand what we saw. Later, as I passed the airport, I saw a plane surrounded by every police, fire and EMT truck possible--but no other aircraft moving on the ground. It was unreal and unsettling. Later I found out it was the plane that had been diverted to Cleveland. That evening I was drawn to go to our church, hoping it would be open for prayer. As I drew near to it I saw the whole parking lot filled with cars! It was good to draw strength with people every where I went that day in prayer for our country!

Pat's Memory

I saw it as it happened on GMA as I was getting ready to go to the Kiwanis Club of Covered Bridge. Everyone at the meeting was in shock when they heard what had happened. We had a moment of silent prayer for the victims' families and our country.

Holly's Memory

I remember so vividly who called me and what I was doing 10 years ago on September 11. I will never forget what I heard and saw. This field of flags is our way of remembering and never forgetting the victims who got up that morning, heading off to work or flying to their next destination and never made it back home. May we never forget.

Dee's Memory

I was late for school because of a Doctor's appointment. I walked into the office of my school, Kenmoor TAG Magnet in Largo, MD. All the office staff had their attention on the TV. I looked up and saw a plane crashing into the second tower of the World Trade Center. The principal was on the PA saying that no student was to be dismissed from the classroom and no TV's were to be on.We had many children whose fathers were military and worked in the Pentagon. I had most of these children in my afternoon classes. Even with the principles directions, the students found out what was going on when many parents came to pick up their children. Teachers were also told to conduct classes as usual but by mid afternoon all the children wanted to do was talk about what happened. I we had a discussion in my class so that they got the facts straight , the principal broke down and sent a fact sheet to each classroom.Since I was teaching Art I gave the students drawing paper and asked them to draw something that was patriotic or a happy memory that they had with that parent who was maybe in harm's way at the Pentagon!

Mary's Memory

That morning I got three children off to school, I was home with our 4 month old. My husband was away on a trip. We were living in Corpus Christi, Texas. I had Good Morning America on and watched as the twin towers were hit. My brother, a US Marine was stationed at the Pentagon. I had called my sister in law living in the DC area and we were talking about how the Pentagon must be very busy since the first attack to the twin towers and while talking to her, through the phone connection I could hear the impact of the plane hitting the Pentagon! They lived about 30 min from the pentagon. We immediately got off the phone so she could contact my brother, who survived. We are proud to be Americans and will always remember those who were taken that day and those who have been taken since because of the effects of 9/11! All will never be forgotten! May God bless America today and every day! Mean people are not a way of life!!!!

Maralee's Memory

I didn't know it when it happened but a few months later I found out that I actually had 3 people that perished that day that I had a connection to....John and Joseph Vigiano, an FDNY firefighter and an NYPD Officer, and Thomas Jurgens, a court officer. I honor their memory each year by flying my 9/11 honor flag that lists all the names that perished that day and also participate in America's 911 Ride that visits all 3 crash sites. I also remember and pray for the families of the first responders who have perished from the health issues from working at those same sites. May we always remember and NEVER FORGET the souls, family members and friends that were lost that day.Mean people are not a way of life!!!!
